In Madagascar, one of the poorest countries in the world, Father Pedro’s aid project provides a model example to follow: under his guidance, thousands of disadvantaged people have given themselves homes, jobs, and schools for their children on the Akamasoa hills, near the country’s capital. These people have rediscovered hope and dignity without any grandiose schemes, pompous speeches or bureaucracy. Maybe what we really need to reduce the gap between the rich and the so-called ‘underdeveloped’ countries in this world are more places like the Akamasoa hills.
