It’s Chinese New Year (of the Rooster) which means it’s time for us to start looking for interesting, new, independent documentaries for this year’s edition of China Screen, Europe’s Chinese Documentary Festival. As in previous years, it’s going to be held in October 2017 in Paris, Rome, Turin, Saarbrücken, Helsinki, Athens and possibly Munich.
As usual, the selection committee are looking for independent films depicting contemporary China. Beyond propaganda and underground material, we are looking for inspiring, innovative, authentic and compelling stories made by Chinese filmmakers about their home country. Over the years our Festival has become one of the most reliable sources of original documentary content about today’s China and we are committed to continuing this exploit, putting the peoples of China at the centre of attention without fear of censorship or vilification.
